67 don't be sorry l ain't offended and I've hardly had a sheltered life, just never done gear, seen it fuck up so many of my mates costing them jobs, relationships and bundles of dosh. Watched others move on harder stuff with worse consequences.

Huacahina is a small mellow place to stay it's a tiny village surrounded by large sand dunes with a lake in the middle and the Nazca lines are good for a day trip ,don't eat before you get on the very small plane it's a chopper flight.

Re: South America - anyone been?
I went to Acapulco around 1985 with about 6 MATES.

It was £9 a pint in our hotel. The whole place was ridiculously expensive.

I have FOUR main memories..

1. The female musical chairs event in some night club, full of Brits and Yanks....

It got down to the last 2. 1 is a yank, 1 is from the UK.

Unfortunately our girl loses, but fear not, she yanks the yank out of the chair and head butts her, to much cheering from the UK contingent , only for a full scale riot to break out, brilliant fun!

B. There was this beggar i saw one day on the street, with a FUCKING Leopard on a chain. Not much else to say about that, as i about turned and fucked off sharpish.

3. When it did rain, it was warm, which i found odd.

D. Got ripped off by what i thought was hash on the beach. turned out to be plastic..Mexicunt.

P.S. Well played 67 and there was no need for the apology in my eyes. you were sharing an experience, as the OP asked for.

Wish i had been offered some bag over there, but knowing my luck it would have been dried Ajax and costed £200 a g.

Aldgate, stayed in their sister one in Atacama. Totally different bit preferred Torres Del Paine. First time we went actually saw a jaguar on our last day.
Claret, found them quite easy to talk to about the Falklands. Interesting their take on it and how their government shat on them

Re: South America - anyone been?
Venezuela on 2 occasions 1997 cocaine tour of Margarita , Trinidad and Miami for 3 months came back with serious habit $5 a G in Margarita similar in Trinidad, $15 Miami

Went back with a mate a year later to Margarita on my first and last all inclusive holiday. Obviously we go some gear and due to the humidity is wrapped in plastic .

We got 2 birds had a go on the gear and I woke up for another line and it was damp so I wiped about half a G an of a fag and took a good drag on it . I was so fucked up I had to lock myself in the toilet in case someone saw me sweating my bollocks off with eyes like Charles Manson

Don't mention the Falklands war when in Patagonia, they're still a bit touchy with the outcome.

Re: South America - anyone been?
as dave said explora in Torres del Paine is a great place - spent a magical few days there a couple of years ago. They have a sister hotel on Easter Island which is just as good.Playa Vik Jose Ignacio in Uruguay is stunning as well. Jose Ignacio is much nicer than Punta del Este.

Re: South America - anyone been?
Stay at Explora in Torres del Paine in Chile. Get down to Southern Argentina, Peninsula Valdes for whale watching and penguin colonies at Punta Tombo, glaciers near El Calafate.
Atacama Desert in Northern Chile. As OTB said see the falls from both sides. There is a hotel in the park on the Argentine side which is great as you can get up early and see the falls before the tourists arrive. Buenos Aires excellent city and I think better than Santiago. Two excellent countries, very big so prepare for lots of flights. I used Journey Latin America to help organise mine.
